The Nueva Upper School has graduated 416 students between 2017 (its first graduating class) and 2021. In this project, we gathered data on the chosen career paths of 320 of those alumni using a combination of LinkedIn and email correspondence.
For those who are employed (excluding university programs)... To determine each alumnus' sector of employment, we recorded 1) the sector of their employer/organization, and 2) the sector of their own job/role within that organization. This was to capture cases where someone's work differs from their company's industry—for example, a finance employee who works at a tech company.
For those engaged in postgraduate studies... Because they receive academic stipends, individuals enrolled in a PhD program were counted as doing "Research - XXX" under the "Academia" employment sector. MD candidates were counted as being personally engaged under "Health," with the employment sector left blank. JD candidates were similarly counted as engaged under "Law," with the employment sector left blank. Masters students were not defined as being as professionally engaged in anything.
Throughout this project, we emphasized full-time, extended employment. We did not count positions held during undergrad, summer internships, or employment spanning <4 months. Additionally we did not count individuals still pursuing their 4-yr degree, who are unemployed, or whose information is unavailable or out-of-date on Linkedin.
